Smoke tests visualize the airflow and whether the capture zone effectively draws contaminants into the LEV rather than letting them escape into the work area. Tracer gas tests quantify capture efficiency and reveal any short-circuiting or leaks in the system, giving a numerical sense of performance. Additionally, measuring contaminant concentrations in the worker’s breathing zone or in the surrounding air during tasks provides direct evidence of exposure reduction. These approaches together demonstrate both the mechanism of capture and the real-world protection offered. Simply counting users, looking at energy use, or judging smoke color do not reliably indicate how well the LEV protects workers.
